Slight came first, and I really spent a lot of time preparing how I was going to make it. I actually measured (!) for the first time ever when making a smaller sculpture. If you recall, I was always a big proponent of working large - the bigger the better.

But reality set in, as it often does, and I not only had to consider how I was going to pay for the materials to make these things, but storing them was also an issue. When you work large with stainless, it becomes very expensive very quickly.

These two are part of what I thought would be a series of three (two didn’t seem like enough). Perhaps that will still happen, but for now this is what you get.

Slight is delicate yet balanced. Is it more thoughtful. Strike is angry. Many lines converge on a central point. Slight might have musical qualities to it, and I imagine it would sound playful and experimental. Strike is a beat drop, a percussive impact, a chord strummed with emotion.

I’m not sure what #3 will look like; probably somewhere between, or maybe even more fragile. I don’t know if I can get much more aggressive than Strike. It was made entirely in 2020 and, well, there were some feelings.

But what is art without a good story behind it?
